Jewels	When referring to movements, jewels are the bearings used to reduce friction. Synthetic rubies are used because of their hardness, which reduces friction and wear. A great amount of jewels does not necessarily mean a watch has high quality; only a certain number of jewels are needed to allow a watch to perform optimally.

Joint	Joints are used in water-resistant watches in order to make the case entirely hermetic. The functions are similar to O-ring.

Jump Hour	A watch in which the hour is indicated by a number springing into view, rather than by a hand; also referred to by the French term heures sauhntes. Less commonly, a traditional hour hand that jumps in one - hour increments precisely at the change of the hour.
