Lesson 8 -- Mainspring Disassembly 21 Jan 2007
 
Tools Required: Eye Loupe, Screw Drivers, Tweezers
 
Mainspring Barrel - Hand winding
 

Step 1.

Open the Mainspring Barrel

Put your fingers on the edge and press down.

 
 

Step 2.

Pick out the Arbor (right)

 

Step 3.

Pull out the Mainspring slowly and carefully.

Pay attention on the end of the Mainspring and the Barrel in green circle.

This design is for Hand Winding.

 

Step 4.

Assembly

According to the winding direction, place the Mainspring and the Barrel as shown on the left hand side.

 

Step 5.

Pick up the Mainspring without changing its direction.

 

Step6.

Put the Mainspring back into the Barrel.

The slot on the barrel should hold the Mainspring in position (green circle)

Step 7.

Put the Arbor back and close it.
